Advanced Placement Calculus AB

Exam Details

The AP Calculus AB Exam has two sections. Section I is 50% of the total grade and has two parts: Part A allows NO CALCULATOR and 28 questions (55 minutes), Part B REQUIRES A GRAPHING CALCULATOR and has 17 questions (50 minutes). Section II is 50% of the exam grade and has two parts as well: Part A REQUIRES A GRAPHING CALCULATOR and has 3 problems (45 minutes), Part B NO CALCULATOR has 3 problems (45 minutes).

Exam note: For Section II, if a student finishes Part A before the end of the timed 45 minutes for Part A, he/she cannot begin working on Part B; the student must wait until the beginning of the timed 45 minutes for Part B. However, during the timed portion for Part B, students may keep the green insert and go back and work on the problems in Part A without the use of a calculator. The problems will NOT appear in the Section II exam booklet. The three Part A problems will be printed in the green insert. The three Part B problems will be printed in a separate sealed blue insert. Each part of all 6 problems will have a designated workspace in the exam booklet.

Last year, 59.5% of students scored a 3 or better on the exam.
